How to Prepare for These New IELTS Speaking Topics
Students should practise these cue cards regularly and try to develop their own ideas rather than memorising complete answers.
A good IELTS Speaking Part 2 answer should have a clear structure. You can organise your answer by covering:
- What the topic is
- When and where it happened
- Who was involved
- What happened
- How you felt about it
- Why it was important or memorable
Try to use natural vocabulary, useful collocations, linking words and a range of grammatical structures. Most importantly, practise speaking continuously for 1–2 minutes.
Do Not Memorise Answers Word-for-Word
Although preparing these topics is useful, memorising a fixed answer is not the best way to prepare for IELTS Speaking. The examiner may change the wording of the question or ask you follow-up questions.
Instead, prepare a few flexible personal stories about:
- Friends and family
- Trips and places
- Shopping experiences
- Important decisions
- Lost items
- Special events
- Skills and achievements
- Movies and entertainment
- People you admire
- News and current events
These experiences can often be adapted to different cue cards.
Important Note
These topics are provided for IELTS Speaking preparation and practice. They should not be considered guaranteed IELTS questions. IELTS Speaking questions can vary between candidates, test dates and locations.
The September–December 2026 First Version is intended as a preparation resource for students who want to practise the latest reported and expected Speaking topics.
