8+ Band Sample Answer
Well, I think photography is a great way of capturing special moments and keeping memories alive, especially when we visit beautiful or interesting places. The person I’d like to talk about is my college friend, Simran, who is really fond of taking photographs. We met a few years ago when we started college, and as we became closer, I discovered that photography was one of her favourite hobbies.
She mainly enjoys taking pictures when she travels. She particularly likes photographing beautiful landscapes, sunsets, historical places and local streets. Whenever she visits a new place, she usually carries her phone or camera with her and looks for interesting things to capture.
I remember once we went on a short trip to a hill station, and that was when I really noticed how passionate she was about photography. While the rest of us were simply enjoying the scenery, she was looking for the perfect angle and waiting for the right lighting. She even woke up early to capture the sunrise. What impressed me was that she didn’t just take random pictures. She paid close attention to the background, lighting and composition.
She also enjoys photographing small details that most people tend to overlook, such as flowers, old buildings, local shops and colourful streets. Later, she edits some of her photographs and shares them on social media.
I really like her passion for photography because she has a natural talent for making ordinary places look special. I also think photography suits her personality because she is patient, creative and quite observant. She notices things that other people might simply walk past.
Overall, I really admire her because she doesn’t just take photographs; she tries to capture the atmosphere and emotions of a place. I think that’s what makes her photography so interesting and meaningful.

IELTS Speaking Follow-up Questions
1. When do people like taking photos?
I think people usually like taking photos when they come across something beautiful, interesting or memorable. For example, they might take pictures of a beautiful sunset, a special moment with friends or an attractive place while travelling. I think the main reason is that photographs allow people to keep those moments and look back on them later. It’s a simple way of preserving memories.
2. Some people don't mind others walking into their shot when they're taking photos. What do you think?
Personally, I don’t think it’s always a bad thing. Sometimes, having a person in the background can make a photo look more natural and realistic. However, if someone is clearly trying to take a particular picture, I think other people should be considerate and avoid getting in the way. It really depends on the situation.
3. What are the downsides of constantly taking photos while travelling?
One major downside is that people may become more focused on taking pictures than actually enjoying their trip. They might spend too much time looking for the right angle or checking how a photo looks instead of appreciating the place around them. As a result, they could end up with hundreds of pictures but fewer genuine memories of the experience.
4. Do you think it’s okay to take photos everywhere?
Not really. I think people should consider the place and the situation before taking photos. In most public places, it’s perfectly normal to take pictures, but in places like religious sites, hospitals or private areas, people should be more respectful. Also, taking someone’s photo without their permission can make them uncomfortable, so personal boundaries should be taken seriously.
5. What kind of photos do people often take?
These days, people take all kinds of photos depending on their interests. Many people like taking selfies, family pictures and candid shots with friends. Others prefer photographing nature, food, buildings or fashion. I’ve also noticed that a lot of young people take aesthetic photos for social media because they enjoy creating attractive and creative content.
6. Why are some people keen on taking photos?
I think there are several reasons for this. Some people take photos simply because they want to preserve their memories, while others see photography as a creative hobby. They enjoy experimenting with lighting, angles and different perspectives. For some people, it’s also a way to express themselves and share their experiences with others, especially through social media.
